Aim of the project
Spark the Facts aims to equip young people in North Macedonia with the skills to find, read, and use reliable data so they can recognize and resist disinformation. Through hands-on “Data Sprints” in three schools students learn to navigate trusted sources like Eurostat, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and national statistical offices, and turn verified evidence into simple mobile apps that speak to issues in their own communities.

Key results

• At least 90 students across three schools trained in data literacy and critical thinking
• A free, open-access Students Learning Guide (“Spark the Facts: Data, Stories, and Mobile Application”), walking students step by step through finding real data, visualizing it with Desmos, and building their first app with MIT App Inventor
• A digital toolbox, including a real-world case studies showing students how open data can be turned into a live, functioning app
• Both resources published in Macedonian and English, freely available to students aged 14–17 and teachers across North Macedonia, ensuring the model can be reused long after the project ends
